*I don’t know if this makes sense or even has coherent thoughts. Please tell me where I’m wrong.
I’ve thought about George Floyd, his murder, and the ensuing protests continuously since the second I saw the video last Monday. Force yourself to watch the entire video and see what is happening to black people and minority groups since the second they step foot in the united states.
I have tried to write something numerous different times but was to uncomfortable to speak out and too comfortable being silent to do anything. Therein lies the problem. I realized that staying silent and saying nothing makes me part of the problem and reason racism is still prevalent in the country today.
The majority has stayed silent for too long and allowed racism towards black people and other minorities groups to spread and get into the fabric of our country. And it has always been in the fabric of our country and that’s what makes it so easy to stay silent because that is the way it has always been. So I just didn’t want to stay silent anymore because it felt counterproductive to helping an entire race of people that have not received the most basic human of rights for the entirety of their existence. Silence and non-action is not an option anymore, it is time to act.
Also quick thing. People have to realize this whole movement is not about politics, disrespecting the flag, or other things that people have made up to cloud what the entire movement is about. It is about police brutality, basic human rights, and racial injustice in the United States. There are not two sides to racial injustice. It’s that simple, don’t get caught up in people trying to argue if people are protesting correctly or other things to distract you from the point, police are killing black people.
So ways you can help. You can march, fill the streets, and make your voice heard. You can put your money where your mouth is and donate to a good cause supporting the movement. You can go out and have a conversation with someone that makes you uncomfortable. You can speak up when you hear something. You can help innocent people stop being murdered for being black.
