Tyus Jones Has Not Played Well

I think these stats are right but if not please let me know about it.

Tyus jones was finally going to be the backup point guard the Grizzlies always wanted.  Welp I will say he is better than most of the pervious backups we had throughout the years, but he is still not great.  Since the 11/15/2019 game against Utah on Mike Conley return night we have played nine game.

In these nine games he has played 169 minutes of basketball and his plus minus is -45.  This means that in these last nine games when he is on the court, we have been outscored by 45 points.  This is understandably terrible, but a lot of people say that box score plus minus is not the best indicator of how someone played.

He has also been leaned upon to score more because of the recent injury to Ja Morant (still trying to find that cameraman).  So, the last nine games jones is averaging a staggering 4, yes I said 4, points per game.

The funniest game he played was 12/2/2019 game against the Pacers where he played a total of 31 minutes and scored 2 points.  His greatest scoring output in this nine game stretch was a huge 12-point game on December 1st against the Minnesota Timberwolves.  I would like to think he scored so many points because this was a revenge game for him.

Also, the assists are down a little over this stretch and he Is getting relatively no steals anymore. Earlier in the season he had 5 games with 2 or more steals.  But since 11/15/2019 he has a grand total of 2 steals.  He has never been a decent three-point shooter but this season he is 6/32, which is a cool %18.75.

Basically, what I’m saying is that I hope Jones turns it around and can play in a NBA basketball game and actually contribute.  If not my guy De ‘Anthony Melton will take his spot.  Melton has 33 points in his last three games and a positive plus minus.  Melton is playing way too good recently not to eat up some of Jones’ minutes.  Oh and a reminder that we are paying Jones 8.4 million dollars this year.  That’s fun.
