*Math is hard

Once again, like every day, I have hit a lull in my work day. During these times I am allowed to think and my mind wonders about all things. I started thinking about Forrest Gump and how an obviously mentally disabled man was able to get into the University of Alabama and how Jenny being the worst person in the world should be talked about more. I mean she gave Forrest AIDS right?

But for those who have not seen the movie, Forrest runs across the entire country multiple times because he just likes running (obviously mentally disabled). I don’t run anymore because I have a job and I’m not a poor so I was wondering how long it would take to walk across the country.

First thing is which city to start in. Out of all the cities I decided I would start in Miami because that seems like a cool place to get really jazzed up for an adventure. The furthest place in the contiguous United States that I could find is the Neah Bay which is located in North Western Washington below Vancouver.

According to the google maps the distance between these two points in 3,433 miles. That’s far as shit. Also the average walking speed is 3 mph. So just doing quick math that would take 1144 hours which converts to about 48 days. It seems like it would take longer than that. But that’s how the math works out.

This does not, however, take into account resting, eating, and making whoopie. I believe the 48 days above are based my continuously walking for 24 hours straight until I get there. I can tell you I will not be doing that.

So let’s say I walk 12 hours a day until I get there, that would mean that I would be walking on average 36 miles per day. So that would mean that it would take my 96 days of walking 12 hours a day to make it across the country. That sounds closer to being correct than 48 days.
Let’s look at all the neat cities I would walk through:
Tallahassee, Florida
Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Memphis, Tennessee
Jonesboro, Arkansas
Kansas City, Missouri
Omaha, Nebraska
Rapid City, South Dakota
Billings, Montana
Wallace, Idaho
Seattle, Washington
And finally
Neah Bay, Washington
Would listen to this song on repeat the entire time:
