*I am not sure if any of the dates, facts, math, grammer, or infomation is correct.

I watched 60 minutes last Sunday because I realized I’m dumb and want get smarter. On the program they had a very interesting story about the Midway Islands, also known as the Midway Atoll. The story they had was on how polluted with plastic the island had become and how that was negatively effecting the birds population of the island. Yes I agree that this is a not good thing that is happening but that’s not why I’m here.

I’m here because the island is super cool and neat. More importantly this island was home to one of the most important battles in US history. In June of 1942 the United States Navy defeated the invading Japanese army which was a major turning point in the Pacific Theater of WW2. That’s cool but let’s get to some fun stuff.

Midway is actually part of the Hawaiian Islands Archipelago. That’s neat. Also only about 50 people live on the island. I’m so jealous. How sweet would it be if you would only see 50 people the rest of your life? No even kidding you could live in a shack on the far side of the island and no one would ever bother you.

Also most of the people that live on the island are staff of the US Fish and Wildlife Service. So I’m sure these guys know all the good fishing spots all around the island. I know you are asking what are the most populous marine life that live here and in the surrounding reefs. Well I’ll tell you that around 250 different species of marine life are found in the surrounding waters. Things such as reef fish (not sure if that’s real), green turtles, dolphins and Hawaiian monk seals. All make delicious meals and you should try them even if they are on the endangered species list.

Now we have to talk about to birds on the island which is insane is you look at any pictures on google. Between “67-70% of the worlds Laysan albatross population” in the world lives on the island. Oh fun fact, the lead paint that was used to paint the building have caused many birds to die due to lead poisoning. Holy smokes and then the government spend $5 million to strip the lead paint off the building LOLZ.

Henderson Field, which is the airport on the island, was originally built as a bombing strip in 1942. Fun fact is that it is an uncontrolled airport which means it does not have a town. That seems dangerous flying blind into a small island in the middle of the ocean. This is an aside but the Sedona Airport in Arizona is also an uncontrolled airport its nuts dude it’s like on mountain.
Oh another fun fact, planes do not fly into the island during the day due to the insane bird population. Yes birds are like us they sleep at night. Also the main transportation on the island is golf carts. It’s basically a retirement community for retired navy officers.

I went on google earth and did some looking around. I found that there is a bar on the island. These 50 people that live there would probably go insane without the relief of sweet sweet alcohol. The bar is called the All Hands Club which sounds awesome. They have beers on tap and a stage for bands. Can’t think they would have that many bands on the island. They also have a basketball court, bowling alley and a movie theatre. Wonder if they got the new Tarantino move?
